Medellín
Medellín is the capital city of the department of Antioquia. It is located in the northwest of Colombia. It is the center of a metropolitan area of 3.312.165 inhabitants (2005); it is the second larges city in the country and corresponds to the region of the Aburrá Valley. It is considered as one of the first centers of industrial and commercial production of the country. A city leader in finances, politics, communications, entertainment, fashion, and art. During the last years it has had fast development within the Latin-American context. "Medellín is the city with a platform that enables the most efficient operation of productive activities. This has been historically achieved through good local governments, good dose of public and private investment, and good decision regarding where and how to compete on behalf of the admired business class. The city has important companies and specialized and complementary institutions in the activities of generation, transformation, transmission, distribution, and commercialization of electrical energy, some of them are ISA, EPM, ISAGEN, the Center for Research and Technological Development of the Electrical Sector - CIDET-, the Electrical Energy Cluster and a diversity of consultants and equipment manufacturers, as well as research work in the field through several universities and their research centers.
